* The Amstelveld is a square in the center of Amsterdam, between the Reguliersgracht, Prinsengracht and Kerkstraat, close to the Utrechtsestraat. The Amstelkerk, a predominantly wooden building, stands on the square. Its characteristic planting consists of 46 Caucasian wingnut trees.
In 1658, Amsterdam needed to expand and a long street was planned between Keizers- and Prinsengracht. Along this street came four large spaces for new churches. The street was called the Kerkstraat and one of those empty spaces became the Amstelveld.
